POSITION PURPOSE:
The purpose of this job is to assist the performance of Biodiesel operational functions, while manufacturing biodiesel, in order to benefit internal and external customers of Renewable Energy Group (REG). This position is divided into specific rotating job responsibilities to include console operations and outside operations. All technicians are subject to rotation and are expected to be able to perform all job tasks.

Essential Functions:
Safety, Loss Control & Environmental responsibilities include the following:
Utilizing the proper PPE to accomplish the job tasks
Being aware, and making management aware of potentially hazardous conditions
Locating and correcting noticeable odors, leaks or visible emissions
Learn to operate the Biodiesel master computer system. This includes operations of the main master control, process production system along with recording data and generating system reports on a timely basis.
Assist in load out and receiving functions, which include preparing trucks and rail cars for shipment and loading products (oil, process ingredients, and process chemicals) by rail and truck.
Learn to perform various quality control functions: for oil, biodiesel, glycerine, fatty acid, and water, visual inspection of all types of inventory, measuring physical inventory on a periodic basis, and operation of lab equipment including centrifuge and filtering equipment.
Be able to operate forklift and rail road equipment.
Learn to manufacture, package, and load specialty oil products and properly document work completed.
Perform weekly and monthly checklist of the rotating equipment and the fixed safety equipment such as fire monitors, fire extinguishers and hoses.
Keep an open line of communication between inside and outside operating personnel and advise supervision of all abnormalities.
Monitor operating equipment (pumps, valves, pressure/temperature readings, fans and chemical treatment systems) designed to control the variables of the water treatment systems.
Monitor operating equipment in the Biodiesel area
Prepare equipment for mechanical repairs, clear, lockout/tagout and render assistance
Perform minor mechanical repairs
Manage hazardous waste as defined in 40 CFR Par 261.3
Follow all safety guidelines regulated by REG, OSHA, or other regulatory agencies.
Learn and assist with general facility maintenance and housekeeping, including equipment inspection and monitoring throughout the facility.
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience required:
6-12 months general work experience preferred. Previous chemical processing or related experience preferred.
Skills required:
General knowledge of computers, basic mechanical and electrical skills, and attention to detail.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
